Rohanna up and down in even-par round

Rachel Rohanna was down below par, then above par and when the first round of the Symetra Tour Eagle Classic presented by Bag Boy ended Friday afternoon she stood at even-par 72.

Rohanna opened with a bogey and then followed with a triple bogey-6 to shoot up to 4-over after just two holes. She closed strong with four birdies in the final seven holes, including the final three holes, to go out in even-par 36.

Rohanna eagled No. 12, a par-5, to slide back down to 2-under, but two bogeys led to an even-par 36 on the back nine.

American Demi Runas leads after the first round with a 7-under 65.

“I started out rough with a few poor club selections, but my putting really saved me,” said Rohanna, who needed 30 putts to finish her round. “I made a lot of great putts for pars and birdies, and even an eagle.”

Rohanna hit 13-of-14 fairways with a driving distance average of 263 yards. She hit 13-of-18 greens in regulation and made 1-of-2 sand saves.
