Ice Miners top Blues again
The Keystone Ice Miners made it three victories in a row and two straight against Springfield Jr. on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 win over the Blues at the Ice Mine.
It was the Ice Miners’ (11-10-3) fourth win in their last five games.
Austin Romzek’s third-period goal broke a 2-2 tie, and Matt Jones and Vito Aluia also scored for Keystone while Nick Kossoff made 39 saves.
Jones’ power-play goal gave Keystone a 1-0 lead after one period. Tayler Fernandez and Alex Archibald assisted on the goal.
The Blues got their own power-play goal from Kyle Meeh early in the second period, but Aluia’s goal, assisted by A.J. Coleman, at the 7:53 mark put the Ice Miners back on top.
Sprinfield made it 2-2 less than three minutes later thanks to a Brendan Jacques power-play goal.
Romzek’s game-winner came on a backhander at 5:28 of the third. Noah Batis and Aluia assisted on the goal.
Keystone, which moved into sole possession of third place in the North Division, are at home again this weekend when they host the Michigan Warriors on Friday and Saturday night. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
The weekend is being called “We Love Connellsville” weekend. Civil Servants will get into Friday’s game for just $8 while Saturday is “Teddy Bear Toss” night. Fans can toss teddy bears onto the ice after the first Keystone goal. The bears will be donated to Connellsville Area Community Ministries.
If either game draws 2,000 fans, one fan will win $2,000.
