Cal women cruise past UPJ, 83-60

Miki Glenn scored a game-high 29 points Wednesday night to lead the California (Pa.) women to an 83-60 PSAC-West victory over visiting Pitt-Johnstown.

The Vulcans (3-0, 6-1) led 39-22 at halftime and extended their lead with a 44-38 advantage in the second half.

Glenn made 11-of-19 field goal attempts and 6-of-7 free throws. Emma Mahady scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Seairra Barrett came off the bench to score 11 points and Kaitlynn Fratz added 10.

Nicole Carman led the Mountain Cats (2-1, 5-2) with 14 points.

Penn State Beaver 83, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 59 — The Lady Roaring Lions fell behind in the first half and couldn’t rally in the final 20 minutes for a PSUAC road loss.

Penn State Beaver led 38-28 at halftime and increased its lead with a 45-31 second half.

Kaitlin Miller led Penn State Fayette (1-1, 1-6) with 12 points. Jackie Halapy added 10.

Sydnee Abernathy scored a game-high 29 points for Beaver (1-0, 5-3).

Thomas More (Ky.) 89, Waynesburg 68 — The Saints made a long trip worth the effort for a PAC road victory over the Yellow Jackets in the conference opener for both teams.

Thomas More (1-0, 5-0) led 49-34 at halftime.

Rebecca Kerr led Waynesburg (0-1, 2-4) with a game-high 24 points.

Sydney Moss had a monster game for the Saints with 42 points. She made 13-of-23 field goals and 14-of-19 free throws, and also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Men’s basketball

California (Pa.) 74, Pitt-Johnstown 65 — The Vulcans led by eight at halftime and then held off the Mountain Cats for a PSAC-West home victory.

California (2-1, 6-2) led 36-28 at halftime and held a slight 38-37 advantage in the second half.

Richard Smith led the Vulcans with 19 points. Jake Jacubec finished with 14 and Khalil Jabbie added 10.

Ian Vescovi was the top scorer for UPJ (1-2, 3-3) with 15 points.

Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 100, Penn State Beaver 92 — The Roaring Lions held a double-digit lead entering the second half and then had to fight off the home team over the final 20 minutes for a PSUAC road victory.

Penn State Fayette led 53-38, but Penn State Beaver made a run in the second half for a 54-47 advantage.

Matt McKenna led the Roaring Lions (4-0, 6-3) with a game-high 28 points, including 10-of-12 free throws.

Brandon Cunningham also topped 20 points, finishing with 25. Jacob Bronder scored 17 and Luke Williams added 13.

Marcus Smith led Beaver (0-1, 0-7) with 25 points.

Thomas More (Ky.) 84, Waynesburg 74 — The visiting Saints rallied in the second half for a victory in the PAC opener for both teams.

Waynesburg (0-1, 1-5) led 39-34 at halftime, but Thomas More pulled into the lead with a 50-35 advantage in the second half.

Thomas Ellis came off the bench to score 17 points for the Yellow Jackets. BJ Durham finished with 13 and Jason Propst added 12.

Drew Mumford scored a game-high 22 points to lead Thomas More (1-0, 3-4).
