Red Raiders down Connellsville, 63-38
Uniontown came out smoking and never let up in a 63-38 win over Connellsville Saturday in the nightcap of the FCCA Tip-Off Challenge at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
The Red Raiders (2-0) opened a 21-2 lead after a quarter and basically never looked back, even though Uniontown limited the Falcons (0-2) to 17 points in the second half.
Joe Campbell led Uniontown with 19 points, while Jeremy Perkins and Lyric Ellis netted 11 points each for the Red Raiders. Avery White paced Connellsville with 15 points.
Uniontown plays Greensburg Salem in an exhibition game at home on Wednesday. Connellsville travels to Norwin to open the Section 1-AAAA opener next Friday, the same night Uniontown opens Section 4-AAA action at Elizabeth-Forward.

Sophomore Jake Swartz poured in 24 points to lead Laurel Highlands to a 58-55 win over Albert Gallatin Saturday in the FCCA Tip-Off Challenge at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
Tyler Eadie added 11 points and David Rusko scored 10 for the Mustangs (2-0). Albert Gallatin (0-2) got 18 points from Nick Groover and 11 from Tavian Mozie, who made 11 of 12 free throw attempts.
The game was tied going into the final eight minutes, but LH took a lead and held off the Colonials down the stretch.

Tray Matthews scored a game-high 26 points, including four 3-pointers, and teammate Kass Taylor added 20 as California defeated Geibel Catholic, 61-49, in the Geibel Catholic Tip-Off Tournament championship game on Saturday.
Coach Bruno Pappasergi’s Trojans (2-0) led 17-11, 40-23 and 53-36 at the breaks.
Kyle Toth paced coach Bill Hughes’ Gators (1-1) with 20 points and Bailey Miller contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Mammarella also grabbed 10 boards and James Ewing dished out six assists for Geibel.

Tyler Ross led Beth-Center with 10 points, as the Bulldogs beat Mapletown, 48-18, in the consolation game of the Geibel Catholic Tip-Off Tournament Saturday.
The Bulldogs opened a 26-3 halftime lead and cruised by limiting the Maples to 15 second half points. Ben Boone led Mapletown (0-2) with 11 points. Beth-Center is 1-1.
Girls basketball
California jumped out to a 22-3 lead in the first period and never looked back in breezing past Valley, 82-14, in the Slippery Rock Tournament consolation game on Saturday.
The Lady Trojans (1-1) led 48-9 and halftime and held Valley (0-2) scoreless in the third period in going up 72-9 heading into the final frame.
Lyndsey Huhn paced coach Chris Minerd’s squad with 21 points and was also named to the all-tournament team.
Freshman Bailey Vig tallied 16 points and Kat Pankratz had 11 for California. Another freshman, Love’ Porter scored nine points and Jenna Miller added eight as the Lady Trojans put 10 players in the scoring column.
California host Frazier on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Khai Harris poured in 22 points to lead Uniontown to a 62-42 girls basketball win over University High from Morgantown, W.Va., in the FCCA Tip-Off Tournament at Laurel Highlands Saturday.
Juanita Harris added 19 points for the Lady Raiders, while Arielle Winfrey scored 12. Emma Sizer topped University (0-2) with 10.
Uniontown (2-0) opens Section 3-AAA action Thursday at Southmoreland.

Mapletown got 13 rebounds from Madison Bogden and three players scored seven points each, but it wasn’t enough, as Bentworth beat the Lady Maples, 44-30, in the consolation game of the Avella Tip-Off Tournament Saturday.
Abby Shipley, Lauren Sanetrik and Hannah Dingle combined for 21 of Mapletown’s 30 points, while Grace Marthezak led the Lady Bearcats with 12 and Tori Cicci added 10.
Bentworth is 1-1, while Mapletown (0-2) hosts Carmichaels Tuesday.

Madison Wiltrout scored 18 points and Molly Bauer had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, as Connellsville beat Woodland Hills, 54-30, in the FCCA Tip-off Tournament Saturday at Laurel Highlands.
Isi Palamone led Woodland Hills (0-2) with eight points. Connellsville improved to 2-0.

Belle Vernon held off Canon-McMillan to earn a 60-53 victory in the Belle Vernon Tournament on Saturday night.
Bria Rathway and Kaitlyn Slagus paced a balanced Lady Leopards scoring attack with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Belle Vernon (1-1) led 12-9, 29-28 and 38-34 at the breaks.
The Lady Leopards’ Sam Mendicino, who scored 12 points, came up big in the fourth period by going six for six from the foul line as the hosts out-scored the Big Macs 22-19 in the final frame.
Cheyenne Trest led Canon-McMillan (1-1) with 19 points, Danielle Parker added 18 and Rebecca Turney chipped in with 10.
HS wrestling
Albert Gallatin finishes eighth out of 25 teams in the Chartiers-Houston Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
AG’s E.J. Wallace placed second at 113 pounds, for the Colonials’ top spot.
Finishing sixth for AG were Zack Friend (195), Justin Colebank (220) and heavyweight wrestler Corey Dodson.
