Frazier girls volleyball coach Mandy Hartman guided the Lady Commodores to a perfect 13-0 regular season, including a 12-0 mark in winning the Section 5-A title, and a WPIAL playoff victory this past season. Under Hartman, Frazier has won 60 consecutive section games. She has been chosen as the Herald-Standard Girls Volleyball Coach of the Year.

Perfection is hard to achieve but Frazier’s girls volleyball team sure has that feat down pat in recent years when it comes to section play.

The Lady Commodores rolled through a perfect 13-0 regular season, including a 12-0 mark in Section 5-A, this past season. Coach Mandy Hartman’s squad added a WPIAL playoff victory before finally facing defeat in the quarterfinals against Shenango.

Those accomplishments earned Hartman and Frazier senior Cassidy Guiser honors as the 2014 Herald-Standard Coach of the Year and Player of the Year in girls volleyball.

Guiser was the Lady Commodores’ leader and best player, which was never more evident than in Frazier’s final match of the regular season at Geibel Catholic. After watching her team drop the first two sets and fall behind 21-13 in the third set, the 5-foot-6 Guiser rallied her teammates to an improbable comeback to keep their lengthy section winning streak alive.

The 21-25, 31-33, 28-26, 25-22, 15-10 win extended Frazier’s section winning streak to 60 matches.

The Player of the Year Runner-up is Geibel Catholic junior Riley Bocan, who helped coach Rick Watkins’ team go 11-4 in the regular season and 9-3 in section play to earn a berth in the postseason.

Guiser and Bocan were both All-WPIAL second-team selections.

Joining Guiser on the Herald-Stanard Girls Volleyball All-Area team for Frazier are senior Jamie Muccioli and juniors Alena Blaszczak, Dyanna Shaporka and Kelsey Holp.

In addition to Bocan, Lady Gators on the team are seniors Kaylee Erminie, Haley Solan, Ashley Tomasko and Haley Thomas.

Two other local teams qualified for the WPIAL playoffs.

They were Carmichaels, which went 9-3 in Section 5-A to tie the Lady Gators for second place, and Brownsville, which finished third in Section 5-AA with an 11-3 record.

Lady Mikes chosen for the team are seniors Emma Lewis, Lindsay Scott and Katie Mays and juniors Katelynn Schooley and Emma Lowry.

Lady Falcons selected for the team were senior Kyonte Martin, juniors Maris Seto and Tori Dubos and sophomore Alie Seto.
