Jordan Hosfelt, swimming

Diving is a relatively new undertaking for Jordan Hosfelt, but that doesn’t mean the Connellsville senior takes it any less seriously than he does anything else he decides to pursue.
“I started my sophomore year,” Hosfelt said. “I’ve had a lot more success than I thought I would ever have.
Hosfelt also maintains a 4.0 grade-point average with an AP-heavy class load and is “an exemplary student,” according to Connellsville diving coach Tammy Nedrow. “He’s a candidate for valedictorian, he’s active in three sports, he’s active in our school musicals. He’s in the National Honor Society and various other honor societies.”
So it was natural that Connellsville would select Hosfelt as its male winter sports honoree in the Centennial Chevrolet Scholar/Athlete Spotlight program. He is the son of Harry and Sherri Hosfelt of Connellsville.
“I started as a swimmer and I knew the coach of the diving team (Nedrow). She said, ‘Just come to a couple of the practices, maybe you can dive, too.’ I liked that a lot and it just started to click with me, so I started doing that instead of just swimming.”
“He really worked his way up to being competitive,” Nedrow said. “He has evolved as a diver. He’s a good leader and a good eample to other athletes at our school.”
Hosfelt will pursue a degree in biochemistry at Case Western Reserve University.
“I want to become a doctor, a doctor of anesthesiology, more specifically,” Hosfelt said. “But I’m going to try to keep myself open going to college. I know a lot of people who were really focused on one thing and they found out that’s not what they wanted to do and they were lost. So I’m just going to keep an open mind going to college.”
“I’m really happy that ‘scholar’ is in there, too,” Nedrow said. “Being a good student needs to be recognized and Jordan is a perfect choice because of that.”
Hosfelt also plays soccer in the fall and runs track in the spring at Connellsville. He runsthe 4×800, 4×400 and the 300 hurdles. “I like diving the best, but track is probably my strongest sport,” he said.
Hosfelt has already had a stellar career at Connellsville, both academically and athletically, but he would like to pull off another good season or two to top it all off.
“I’d really like to make WPIALs this year in diving,” he said. “In soccer, for the first time in Connellsville history, we make the WPIAL playoffs, which was a big thing. We made WPIALs in track last year and hope to go back this year. Making all three would be the icing on the cake.”
Speaking of icing, he has an idea that most high school kids would love to see come to pass. If Hosfelt were allowed to he President of the United States for one day, his agenda would include making the school day start at 9 a.m.
“I’m not a morning person and I believe in getting a good night’s sleep,” Hosfelt said. “I do realize we’d have to stay later, but there have been studies done that prove it helped kids out a lot.
“It’s not like world peace or anything, but it’s what I would do.”
