Lady Vikings finish strong to beat Uniontown, 38-24
The Mount Pleasant girls moved into the lead in the second quarter Saturday afternoon and didn’t look back for a 38-24 Section 3-AAA road victory at Uniontown.
The Lady Raiders (1-1, 3-1) led 7-5 after the first quarter, but the Lady Vikings rallied for a 17-12 halftime lead. The halftime break didn’t slow the visitors’ momentum with Mount Pleasant taking the third quarter, 12-8.
Alexa Szelong led Mount Pleasant (2-0, 4-1) with 15 points.
Uniontown’s Khai Harris scored a game-high 16 points.
Ringgold 60, Laurel Highlands 33 — The Ringgold girls outscored visiting Laurel Highlands in each quarter Saturday for a 60-33 non-section victory.
The Lady Rams (3-2) led 15-8, 27-17 and 38-26 at the quarter breaks.
Ashley Galderisi was the lone player in double digits for the Fillies (2-3) with 14 points, including three 3-pointers.
Ashley Briscoe scored a game-high 20 points for Ringgold. Marlena Schmidt added 13.
Baldwin 65, Connellsville 39 — The Connellsville girls fell behind early, scoring only two points in the first quarter, as the Lady Falcons dropped a 65-39 non-section game Saturday afternoon to visiting Baldwin.
The Lady Highlanders (3-1) led 13-2 after the first quarter and 25-14 at halftime. The visitors increased its lead to 21 points, 43-22, after three quarters.
Madison Wiltrout was the lone player for Connellsville (2-3) in double figures with 22 points.
Alexandra Barr led Baldwin with 15 points. Lauren Gilbert finished with 14 and Amanda Larkin added 11.
Burgettstown 37, Waynesburg Central 34 — Waynesburg Central’s last-gasp run came up short in the final minute Saturday afternoon as Burgettstown held on to defeat the visiting Lady Raiders, 37-34, in non-section action.
The Lady Raiders went on a 5-0 run in the final minute to cut the deficit to three points, and had the ball with a couple seconds remaining, but Waynesburg’s final set piece with a couple seconds remaining went awry as Burgettstown held on.
Waynesburg (1-3) led 9-6 after the first quarter, but the Lady Blue Devils rallied for a 13-11 halftime lead. Burgettstown increased its advantage by two more points after three quarters.
Kirsten Garber and Celine Monica shared scoring honors with 12 points.
Katie Tarr led Burgettstown (4-1) with 11 points.
