By The 1 min read

Washington rallied from a 16-13 halftime deficit with a strong defensive effort in the second half to beat host Carmichaels, 38-26, in a Section 4-AA girls basketball battle on Monday night.

The Lady Prexies (3-2, 3-0) held the Lady Mikes (2-3, 0-1) scoreless while scoring 11 points in the third period to grab a 24-16 lead and outscored the hosts 14-10 in the final frame.

Mikala Maltony, Emmalea Beck and Tajah Gordon each scored eight points for Washington.

Caroline Cree rang up a game-high 15 points for Carmichaels.

“Washington played strong defense in the second half and we couldn’t find an answer,” Lady Mikes coach Jim Lane said. “We’ll just try to learn from this and get better.”

Carmichaels travels to Bentworth for a 7:30 p.m. game on Thursday.
