LH splits swim meet with Latrobe
Laurel Highlands earned a split with Latrobe, keeping the LH boys undefeated and handing the girls their first loss of the season.
The boys beat Latrobe, 103-69. The boys meet was highlighted by a WPIAL qualifying score by LH diver John Ek of 194.35. LH also won two of three relays. Logan Knoyer won two individual events and was part of a winning relay for the Mustangs, while Brandon Thomas also won two individual events and was part of a winning relay. Daniel Keith won one event and was part of two winning relays.
The Latrobe girls beat LH, 95-86, but the Fillies had a couple of notable times. Emily Yarish won the 50 freestyle and swam in a pair of relay wins and broke a school record in the 100 butterfly, even though she finished behind Latrobe’s Monica Sowinski. Yarish finished in 1:00.20 to beat the record of 1:00.82 set by Sara Bionchosky.
Mackenzie Robatin also won the 100 backstroke in a WPIAL qualifying time of 1:05.40. Kristen Bane won two events and swam on two winning relay teams for LH. Lexi Kostelnik won the 500 freestyle and was part of a winning relay team.
