Quest Prep downs Mustangs, 93-80
Laurel Highlands fell behind 43-26 at halftime and got no closer than seven points in the second half of a 93-80 loss to Quest Prep, a Las Vegas-based school, at the Tarkanian Classic boys basketball tournament Thursday.
The loss drops LH to 4-3 and into a game at 1:50 p.m. today against the loser of yesterday’s Cheyenne, Nev.-San Bernardino, Calif. game.
David Rusko scored 22 of his team-high 27 points in the second half, while Jake Swartz added 23 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for LH.
The Mustangs took their only lead at 4-3 on a Rusko basket with 6:07 left in the first quarter. LH got as close as 79-72, when Swartz made two foul shots with 4:03 remaining in the game.
Chris Hawkins paced Quest Prep (1-1) with 39 points, including making 18 of 20 free throws. David Vasques added 22 and Quan Hawkins scored 19, including all 11 free throws he attempted. Quest Prep made 35 of 42 free throw attempts.
