Volquez to sign with Royals
The Kansas City Royals have reportedly agreed to terms with right-handed starting pitcher Edinson Volquez on a two-year contract for $20 miilion.
Volquez was the Pirates’ winningest pitcher this past season with a 13-7 record. It was the second-highest win total of his career. Volquez went 17-6 with the Cincinnati Reds in 2008.
Volquez made $5 million with Pittsburgh in 2014 when he posted a 3.04 ERA with 140 strikeouts and 71 walks. He led the Bucs with 31 starts and 192 2-3 innings pitched.
Pirates fans might unfortunately remember him best for his failure in the wild-card playoff game against the San Francisco Giants when he allowed five runs in five innings in taking the loss.
