Cal tops Mansfield
Behind a balanced offensive performance, the No. 23 California University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team cruised to an 83-43 victory at Mansfield on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover action.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 10-1 overall and extend their winning streak to six games. Cal U also remains tied for first in the PSAC West standings with a 7-0 mark in league play. The 40-point margin of victory was the largest for the Vulcans since registering a 47-point win over Glenville State early in the 2012-13 season. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers fall to 1-9 this season behind a 0-7 record in conference action.
Jacket men get win
The Waynesburg University men’s basketball team rode an explosive start to the second half of Saturday’s game to pull away for a third-straight victory. The Yellow Jackets blew open a five-point halftime lead by pouring in 48 points in period number two en route to a 78-47 win over visiting Franciscan.
The combined efforts of the Jacket (4-5) defense stole the show at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse by holding the Barons (2-6) to 31.5 percent shooting from the floor, including a 28-percent effort in the second half.
Franciscan also failed to produce a double-digit scorer on the afternoon.
Vulcans edge Mansfield
Junior guards Khalil Jabbie and Jake Jacubec combined for 41 points and 11 steals on Saturday afternoon, as California (Pa.) posted a 72-70 victory in the final minute at Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover action.
With the win, the California improves to 8-4 overall with a 4-3 mark in league play. Meanwhile, Mansfield falls to 4-6 this season behind a 2-5 record in conference action.
