The Uniontown girls softball team may be out of season by a few months, but the Lady Raiders believe the Christmas season is a great time to show that they can make a difference, with or without gloves, bats and softballs.

The Lady Raiders, fresh off of the school’s first playoff appearance in 35 years, have undertaken a few fund-raising missions. The most recent one gave a wonderful Christmas to a mountain-area family that likely would not have been able to enjoy much of a holiday.

Through the help of the Farmington Bethel Church and CYS, the Lady Raiders identified a needy family with 11 children and provided a wonderful Christmas for them, including food items for a Christmas breakfast and dinner, as well as Christmas presents hand picked and purchased by the players.

Uniontown softball coach Steve Forsythe gave all the credit to the girls, but said the idea of giving back is age old.

“It seems like we and all other sports teams are always asking people to give us something,” Forsythe said. “This is a great way of trying to give something back. I’m really proud of the girls and our boosters group for giving something back to the community.”

Earlier this year, the Lady Raiders raised money for a family of a fellow classmate who died recently and also for a fellow student who is still recovering in a hospital after a tragic car accident.

These Lady Raiders truly are a team for all seasons.
