Bulldogs take King Coal title
Bradey McDonnell’s 13 points and 11 more from Tyler Ross led Beth-Center to a 36-23 win over Carmichaels in the King Coal Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday night.
Liam Shea paced Carmichaels (1-7) with eight points, but the Mikes managed only five points in the first half and five more in the fourth quarter.
Beth-Center improved to 5-5 and turned a 20-18 lead through three quarters into a 13-point win by outscoring Carmichaels 16-5 in the final eight minutes.
Rece Henneman led all scorers with 37 points, as Jefferson-Morgan beat Mapletown, 76-52, in the consolation game of the King Coal Holiday Tournament at Carmichaels High School Saturday night.
Austin Clark added 16 points for J-M (6-3), while Ben Boone led Mapletown (0-9) with 21 points and Matt Hein added 12.

Carrick 86, Frazier 40 — Carrick won its fourth game in a row by defeating the Frazier boys, 86-40, Saturday night at the Bishop Canevin Tournament.
Carrick scored its highest total of the young season and improved to 5-2, while Frazier fell to 3-4.

Girls basketball
Southmoreland 57, Geibel Catholic 49 — Southmoreland’s girls basketball team came away with a 57-49 win over Geibel Catholic to claim the title in the Lady Gators Christmas Tournament Saturday night.
No further details were available, except that the Lady Scots improved to 5-4, while the Lady Gators fell to 4-3.
In the consolation game, Waynesburg Central scored a 52-21 win over Wilkinsburg.
Kristen Garber led the Lady Raiders (2-7) with 21 points and Celine Monica added 17. Wilkinsburg fell to 1-10.

California 69, Carmichaels 35 — California got 18 points from Lyndsey Huhn and 13 more from Bailey Vig in a 69-35 win over Carmichaels to win the Lady Trojan Holiday Classic Saturday night at California.
The Lady Trojans (9-1) ended any drama early with a 25-9 scoring edge in the first quarter. California made it 44-18 at halftime with a 19-9 advantage in the second quarter.
Carmichaels fell to 3-6, despite a game-high 24 points from Caroline Cree.

Brownsville 51, Fort Cherry 31 — Brownsville snapped a five-game losing streak with a 51-31 win over Fort Cherry in the consolation game at the McGuffey Tournament Saturday night.
The Lady Falcons improved to 4-5 and won for the first time since a 63-16 win over Albert Gallatin back on Dec. 8. Fort Cherry fell to 2-7 with their fourth consecutive loss.
