Penn State Fayette women win on the road
The Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, women pulled out to a 13-point halftime lead Saturday and then held off Penn State Wilkes-Barre for a 65-52 PSUAC road victory.
The Lady Roaring Lions led 34-21 at halftime. The teams played to a 31-31 tie in the second half.
Jill Guthrie led the visitors with 23 points, including 7-of-18 from the field and 9-of-13 from the foul line. Tara Neely finished with 12 and Shannon Flament added 11.
Breanna Moore led Penn State Wilkes-Barre with a game-high 26 points. Sierra Eskridge added 11.
Thomas More (Ky.) 95, Waynesburg 63 — The undefeated Saints exploded in the second half, breaking open a close game at halftime for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference road victory.
Thomas More led 36-31 at halftime, but responded with an offensive outburst in the second half, taking the final 20 minutes, 59-32.
Courtney Sargent led the Yellow Jackets (8-4, 10-9) with 17 points. Lauren Blair added 12.
Sydney Moss poured in 40 points for the Saints (12-0, 19-0), including 15-of-27 from the field (3-of-5 from 3-point range) and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Jenny Burgoyne made 10-of-15 shots to finish with 21 points. Sydni Wainscott finished with 12 points and Katie Kitchen added 10.
California (Pa.) 85, Slippery Rock 67 — The visiting Vulcans outscored The Rock by nine points in each half for a PSAC-West road victory.
California (6-4, 12-7) led 41-32 at halftime.
Emma Mahady had a double-double for the Vulcans with a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds. Irinia Kukolj scored 21 points, CeCe Dixon finished with 11, and Miki Glenn added 10.
D’Asia Chambers was the top scorer for Slippery Rock (1-9, 4-16) with 21 points. Jazmyne Frost finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, and Erica Aiello was also in double figures with 10 points.
Men’s basketball
Thomas More (Ky.) 69, Waynesburg 61 — The Saints held a 7-point lead at halftime, and then matched the Yellow Jackets in the second half for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference road victory.
Thomas More (8-2, 9-9) led 32-25 at the half, and held a slight 37-36 edge in the second half.
Jason Propst led the Yellow Jackets (4-7, 9-11) with 13 points. Thomas Ellis came off the bench to score 11, and Jacob Fleegle added 10.
Drew Mumford scored a game-high 16 points for the Saints. Brandon Housley finished with 14, D’Carlo Hayes had 13, and Nate McGovney added 11.
Slippery Rock 64, California (Pa.) 53, OT — The Vulcans rallied to force overtime, but the home team held the upperhand in the extra period for a PSAC-West home victory.
Slippery Rock (7-3, 16-6) led 27-20 at halftime, but the Vulcans countered with a 25-18 advantage in the second half to force overtime.
The Rock turned on the offense in the overtime period, outscoring the visitors, 19-8, for the conference victory. The difference came at the free throw line with Slippery Rock converting 13-of-16 attempts, while the Vulcans maded 4-of-5.
Tynell Fortune led the Vulcans (4-6, 9-11) with 12 points. Jake Jacubec and Drew Cook both finished with 10.
Antonio Butler scored a game-high 20 points for The Rock. Taban Perry finished with 12 and grabbed 16 rebounds, while Maurice Lewis-Briggs had 10 points.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre 68, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 57 — The game was tied at halftime, and the home team scored 40 points in the final 20 minutes for a PSUAC victory over the Roaring Lions.
Matt McKenna came up big for Penn State Fayette with a game-high 26 points, including 10-of-21 field goal attempts (3-of-7 from 3-point range) and 3-of-5 foul shot attempts. Luke Williams had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Jacob Bronder added 12 points.
Spencer Perieff was the only other Roaring Lion to score with six points.
Keith Johnson led the home team with 18 points. Denzel Mensah was also in double digits with 11 points.
