Maples clinch playoff spot with 63-60 win

Mapletown made a comeback in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s home game against Avella to clinch a spot in the Section 3-A playoffs. The Maples won 63-60.

Avella led 28-23, 34-30, and 49-42 at the quarter breaks. Mapletown scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to win the game.

Dereck Riggleman scored a game-high 31 points for the Maples, while teammate Ben Boone scored 18 points.

Brandon Miller led scoring for Avella with 27 points, Walt Kopko followed with 13, while Bill McKee scored 12.

Mapletown (7-10, 3-5) travels to Clairton today in Section 3-A play.
