Olivia Helmick’s basket with about 90 seconds remaining put California up by three, and Tristen Conaway scored on a breakaway layup in the waning moments to lead the Lady Trojans to a 47-43 Section 3-A victory at Avella Friday night.

The Lady Trojans (17-3) finished with a 10-0 section record to clinch their first outright title since 1982. The Lady Eagles are now 7-2 in the section and 14-7 overall.

California led 12-10 after the first quarter, but Avella rallied for a 24-23 halftime lead. The Lady Trojans regained the lead after three quarters, 35-34, and then held off any late comeback hopes with a 12-9 fourth quarter.

Conaway led the Lady Trojans with a game-high 16 points. Kylie Huffman scored 13, and Jenna Miller added 12.

Aleesha Thomas led Avella with 14 points. Kenna Drazich added 11.
