Gators need overtime to defeat Avella, 73-69
James Ewing scored a game-high 30 points, including five in overtime, to lead visiting Geibel Catholic to a 73-69 Section 3-A victory at Avella on Friday.
The Gators (2-8, 3-15) led 19-16 in the first quarter, and 32-23 at the half. The Eagles (1-9, 3-17) started to comeback with a 22-19 advantage in the third quarter, and forced overtime by outscoring the Gators in the final eight minutes, 22-16.
Geibel scored six points in the extra period for the win.
Ewing finished with four 3-pointers in his game-high total. Kyle Toth hit three treys to finish with 11 points.
Brandon Miller scored 17 points for the Eagles, topping 1,000 points for his career. Bill McKee led with 22 points, while Walter Kopko finished with 14 and Cody Dobbins added 11.
