By The 1 min read

Fresh off her All-America performance at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, California University of Pa. sophomore Julie Friend will be competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Sunday at the USA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

The Uniontown graduate originally qualified for the national junior meet when she first broke the school record at the Bison Classic. She then broke her record four more times in the spring.

Friend, the PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year, won the conference title in the 5,000-meter run and was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Friend finished sixth in the national championships in the steeplechase to earn All-America honors.

The USATF Junior Outdoor Championships are open to qualifiers under the age of 20. The steeplechase is on Sunday at 6:35 p.m.
