Legion playoffs backed up a day

By The 1 min read

Waynesburg’s 12-11 lead over Smithfield-Fairchance through eight innings became a win overnight in their Fayette American Legion baseball playoff opener.

Commissioner Ron Popovich confirmed Tuesday that league rules stipulate that a game that goes beyond five innings, but is not completed for any reason is awarded to the team that leads through the last completed inning.

Popovich also said Tuesday’s Game 2 of the best-of-three quarterfinal series was rained out and that the teams will play Game 2 at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday on Waynesburg’s field.

Also rained out were the other two games. Connellsville carries a 1-0 series lead into Wednesday game at Farmington and Carmichaels leads Belle Vernon, 1-0, with Game 2 moved to Wednesday. Both games begin at 5:45 p.m.
