Rockets cruise past Mapletown, 11-1
Carmichaels’ pitcher Erica Burns led the Lady Mikes to a Section 2-A 10-0 victory over California at home on Monday in just five innings.
Burns struck out eight in the no-hitter, while Tristan Lint took the loss for California.
Katie Mays, Amanda Brown and Natalie McNett each hit a double for Carmichaels, while Burns and Emma Lowry each hit a triple.
Carmichaels (12-3, 10-2) hosts Frazier at 1 p.m. today, and will travel to Mapletown after at 4:15 p.m., both in Section 2-A play.
Jefferson-Morgan 6, West Greene 2 – Jefferson-Morgan defeated West Greene 6-2 at home on Monday in Section 2-A play.
Winning pitcher Maddie Ludrosky struck out 17 for the Lady Rockets, while losing pitcher Bailey Bennington struck out seven for West Greene.
Bennington hit two home runs for the Lady Pioneers.
Jessica Taylor also hit a home run for Jefferson-Morgan (15-2, 12-2).
West Greene (7-10, 6-7) travels to Serra Catholic today in Section 2-A play.
Frazier 5, California 1 – The Lady Commodores moved one win closer to securing a Section 2-A playoff berth Monday with a road victory over the Lady Trojans.
Frazier (9-4) improves to 9-3 in the section with games today at Carmichaels and Wednesday at home with Serra Catholic. Carmichaels is alone in second place with a 10-2 record with Serra Catholic in fourth at 7-5.
California closes the season with an 0-14 section mark and an overall record of 0-16.
Frazier scored one run in the top of the first inning, and then extended its advantage to 4-0 in the top of the third. Both teams scored a single run in the seventh inning.
Caitlyn Brown doubled for Frazier.
Paige Hotz scattered three hits, struck out eight and walked just one in the win.
California’s Kayla Demo allowed seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Baseball
Jefferson-Morgan 11, Mapletown 1 – The Rockets closed out the Section 1-A road game with the mercy rule Monday afternoon against the Maples.
Jefferson-Morgan scored singles runs in both the top of the first and second innings, three in the third, two in the fourth, and invoked the mercy rule with four runs in the top of the sixth.
Austin Clark struck out 10 and walked four, and also smacked a home run. Logan Bowman legged out a triple for the Rockets.
Colby Kincell took the loss for the Maples, striking out two and walking two. He also doubled for one of Mapletown’s four hits.
Jefferson-Morgan closes the section schedule at 4-6, improving to 4-10 overall. Mapletown (0-8, 2-10) has section games remaining with Carmichaels and West Greene.
Connellsville 15, Albert Gallatin 9 — Connellsville built an 11-1 lead, then withstood an Albert Gallatin comeback to post a 15-9 win over the Colonials in Section 2-AAAA baseball Monday.
Cory Fogle picked up the pitching with for Connellsville (4-8, 8-11), while Jimmy Malone earned a save. Nate Torbich took the loss for AG (0-10, 2-13).
Mike Durnstine singled, doubled and homered to drive in two runs for the Falcons. Malone also homered for Connellsville, which also got doubles from Luke Kisiel, Fogle, Austin Puskar and Brock Bonadio.
AG got a grand slam homer from Cody Riggin in an eight-run fourth inning. Ryan Stewart and R.T. Barber also homered for the Colonials.
Connellsville is wrapped up in section play and finishes its season against Gateway at home Wednesday. The Colonials still have section games at Hempfield today and at Kiski Area on Wednesday.
