Smithfield-Fairchance Legion tops Farmington

Micah High and Nick Groover smacked three hits apiece to help Smithfield-Fairchance defeat visiting Farmington, 12-3, in a six-inning American Legion baseball game on Sunday.

It was the league opener for both teams.

Nate Torbich struck out six in tossing a four-hitter for Smithfield-Fairchance. Joey Embacher doubled and singled and Paul Dunham also had two hits for the hosts.

Smithfield-Fairchance jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Garrett Fox blasted a game-tying, three-run homer in the top of the third for Farmington.

Smithfield-Fairchance came right back with six runs in the bottom of the inning and added three more in the fifth to set the final score.

Tyler Frazee took the loss for Farmington.
