Robert Rohanna continues strong play
Robert Rohanna had his third top-10 finish of the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica season last week in the Dominican Republic, and maintained the momentum Thursday with a 2-under par 70 in the opening round of the Lexus Panama Classic at Buenaventura Golf Club.
Rohanna had a birdie and eight pars on the front nine to go out in 1-under 35. The Waynesburg Central graduate carded more birdies on the back (3), but also had a couple bogeys to come back in 1-under 35.
“Yeah, it was pretty solid,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “I hit lots of fairways and had good misses where I had easy chips.
“I missed a few putts, but putted well overall.”
“My bogeys were a little bad luck, but I guess it happens,” continued Rohanna. “The course is long and doesn’t have much roll, it’s a Jack Nicklaus design. There’s lots of bunkers and lots of water.”
Great Britain’s Thomas Curtis and Paraguay’s Marco Ruiz share the first round lead at 5-under 67.
The top 55 and ties advance to Saturday’s third round.
“Yeah, another under-par round and I will be fine. I just need to keep plugging away,” said Rohanna.
