Rohanna shoots 3-under, slips into top 20
Robert Rohanna had quite a run of birdies Saturday afternoon at the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica’s Lexus Peru Open presented by Scotiabank to move into the top 20 after the third round with a three-day total of 6-under 210.
The Waynesburg Central graduate carded a 3-under 69 in the third round after shooting 71 and 70 in the first two rounds.
Rohanna had an uneventful opening nine holes with six pars, one birdie and two bogeys to go out in 1-over 37.
Things picked up for Rohanna on the back nine after he opened with a birdie-3 on No. 10. After a par, Rohanna had a run of four straight birdies to move to 7-under into the top 10.
He gave one of those strokes back with a bogey-4 on No. 16 to play the back nine in 4-under 32.
“Yeah, I had it going. I also missed two putts inside 10-feet on (Nos.) 11, 16 and 18,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “I hit it really well today. I just had a few awful breaks.”
A couple of those bad breaks were shots that landed in sand traps.
“I hit into three bunkers today. The bunkers are like concrete firm. I had one plugged lie and two shoe prints!” said Rohanna of shots hit into traps. “Two of them were (bogeys). One was on the par-5 eighth hole where I had 190 (yards) to the front edge and I hit it 189, plugged lie.”
Despite the trouble spots, Rohanna felt he played pretty good.
“I did! I hit it really well today,” said Rohanna. “Today was one of those rounds that could have been super low, but a few bad breaks and that kills momentum.”
Argentina’s Julian Etulain finished with a 68 to retain the lead at 14-under 202 heading into today’s final round.
