Waynesburg shuts out Chatham, 5-0
Karleigh Murphey scored the first and last goal to lead Waynesburg to a 5-0 PAC home victory Wednesday against Chatham.
Murphey scored in the 15th minute of the first half. Rachel Ball, Erica Nordlund and Sara Hackman also scored in the first half.
Murphey netted her second goal in the 70th minute.
Ciara Scott was the starting goaltender and made two saves in the first half. Heather Fraser came on in the second half and made one save in 40 minutes. Connellsville grad Marian Chearney played the last five minutes and did not face a shot.
The Yellow Jackets even their conference mark at 1-1-0 and improve to 5-5-2 overall. Chatham slips to 0-2-0 in the PAC and 3-8-0 overall.
California (Pa.) 3, Mercyhurst 2 — Chelsea Crockett scored the game-winner in the 74th minute to lift the Vulcans to a PSAC victory over the visiting Lakers.
Janelle McCann scored two goals in the first half, the first off a Crocket assist. Lauren Testa scored her conference leading seventh goal to draw Mercyhurst to 2-1 early in the second half.
Crockett’s team-leading sixth goal gave the Vulcans a two-goal lead in the 74th minute. Janine Wong answered for the Lakers two minutes later on a penalty kick.
Meghan Jayes then preserved the victory, turning aside a career-high seven shots.
California improves to 6-2-1 in the PSAC and 6-2-2 overall. Mercyhurst slips to 2-7-1 in the conference and 3-7-1 overall.
