By The 2 min read

The Keystone Ice Miners maintained its hold on first place and climbed above .500 with a 4-0 win over Springfield in a NAHL game played Saturday night in Springfield.

Keystone, which plays its home games at the Ice Mine in Leisenring, got its first goal from Noah Batis, a power play goal on an assist from Jacob Coleman.

The local team exploded for three goals in the second period, one each from Jon Hall, Garrett Hallford and Austin Romzek. Hallford’s goal was unassisted, while Hall got an assist from Niko Coffman and Matt Jones assisted on Romzek’s score.

Batis leads the locals with five goals, while Jones is the point leader with eight.

Keystone peppered Springfield goalie Dryden McKay with 17 shots in the first period and followed it by putting 16 shots on goal in the second period.

Meanwhile, Keystone goalie Nick Kossoff was the most lonely man in the Nelson Center. He faced only three shots in the first period and only eight in the second. He faced — and saved — 16 shots in the third period.

Keystone (13) remains one point ahead of the Soo Eagles (12) in the North Division. Springfield (3-7) hosts Keystone (6-5-1) again at 3 p.m. today.

Keystone returns to the Ice Mine next Sunday to meet Johnstown after the Tomahawks host Keystone on Saturday. Saturday’s faceoff is at 7 p.m., while Sunday’s game at the Ice Mine offers a 1 p.m. start.
