B-C’s Welsh rolling to TD Club repeat

By The 2 min read

Beth-Center’s Anthony Welsh is well on his way to a second consecutive title in the Herald-Standard Touchdown Club contest.

Welsh found the end zone three more times last week to push his scoring total up to 172 as the Bulldogs enter the WPIAL playoffs.

Welsh’s closest competition, Waynesburg Central’s Hunter Cenname, scored one touchdown to give him 120 points as the Raiders also head into postseason play.

Mapletown freshman sensation Dylan Rush tacked on three more TDs to move into a tie for third place with Beth-Center’s Nico Brown, who added a pair of touchdowns. Both set at 104 points.

Rounding out the top five is the Maples’ Adam Hein, who remained at 84 points.

Laurel Highlands quarterback Jimmy Pierce also scored three times to move from an eight-place tie up to sole possession of sixth place.

Another player who had three TDs was Frazier’s L.A. Ross, who also scored on a two-point conversion for a 20-point game, the highest of the week. Ross is seventh with 74 points.

Ross passed teammate Hunter Patterson who had one touchdown to put his total at 72.

Waynesburg Central’s injured John Glen Davis remains in the top 10 at ninth with 71 points while Belle Vernon’s Anthony Levis scored once but still fell one spot into 10th.

Looking outside the top 10, Mapletown’s Mat Rush, Dylan’s brother who sits in 21st place with 41 points, has accomplished something no one else has in the top 10 or anywhere in the TD Club standings.

Rush, a junior, is the only player in the area to score a touchdown, kick a field goal, kick an extra point and score a two-point conversion.
