The Waynesburg defense pitched a shut out in Saturday’s opener and even scored a touchdown as the Yellow Jackets defeated visiting Muskingum, 33-0.

After a scoreless first quarter, Waynesburg’s Jerry Lawman slipped into the end zone on a 4-yard run at 11:19 of the second quarter.

The Yellow Jackets went to the air for their second score with Carter Hill connecting with Zac Capan on a 49-yard touchdown pass at 7:31.

Hill took care of business himself at 10:40 of the third quarter when he powered into the end zone from one yard.

Then, just 22 seconds later, Carmichaels grad Josh Mundell intercepted a Cody Williams’ pass and sprinted 41 yards to the end zone.

Uniontown graduate Jake Forsythe capped the scoring at 14:28 of the fourth quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run.

Lawman gained a game-high 71 yards on 12 carries. Forsythe rushed for 48 yards on 14 carries. Hill completed 13-of-22 passes for 248 yards and one touchdown. Bernie Thompson was the Yellow Jackets’ top receiver with four receptions for 119 yards.
