Roaring Lions open volleyball season with 3 wins
Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, is off to a flying start in women’s volleyball.
The Roaring Lions picked up a trio of victories, all in 3-0 sweeps, over the weekend to begin the season 3-0.
Fayette opened with two matches in the PSUAC/UPCC Challenge on Friday, defeating Penn Highlands, 25-10, 25-10, 25-11, and spiked Community College of Beaver County, 25-8, 25-6, 25-15.
In the opening win, Emily Konter contributed 30 assists and three aces and Samantha Helmantoler totaled 14 kills. In the latter victory, Konter rang up 23 assists and four aces, Samantha Helmantoler chipped in with 10 kills and Victoria Helmantoler added six kills and five aces.
On Sunday, coach Nancy Wheeler’s squad toppled Westmoreland County Community College, 25-14, 25-3, 25-9. Konter had 19 assists and six aces, Emily Caldwell notched seven kills and Kara Zimcosky added nine aces.
The Roaring Lions are in action again Tuesday when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny at 7 p.m.
