Gators rout Washington in 8-0 Section 4-A victory

Geibel Catholic remains undefeated in Section 4-A after defeating Washington 8-0 at home.

Bailey McIntyre scored three goals and assisted two for the Gators, while fellow senior James Ewing scored two and assisted three.

McIntyre opened the game at 14:33 with an unassisted goal for Geibel Catholic.

Ewing followed suit, scoring at 12:51 on an assist from McIntyre. Junior

Nick Speeney scored the last goal in the first half for the Gators at 4:58 on an assist from Ewing, finishing 3-0 at halftime.

Senior Chris Martin scored for Geibel just under two minutes into the second half at 18:33 on an assist from Ewing.

Martin also scored the second goal of the half at 14:52 on an assist from freshman Clancy McIntyre.

Bailey McIntyre assisted Ewing in his second goal of the game just 15 seconds later, making the score 6-0, Geibel.

McIntyre scored a goal at 11:00 on an assist from Ewing, and again at 9:00 on an assist from senior Matt Mammarella.

Laurel Highlands won a Section 6-AA game at Waynesburg Central on Thursday, defeating the Raiders 4-1.

Ryan Gesso opened scoring for the Mustangs with a goal at the 33:17 mark in the first half. Teammate Colby Tarr scored at 19:50.

Waynesburg Central’s Nathan Blair scored the Raiders’ sole goal at 12:53 in the first half.

Garrett Kopich opened the second quarter with a goal for the Mustangs at 11:18.

Tarr scored the last goal of the game at 9:44 for Laurel Highlands.

High school golf

Carmichaels and Charleroi finished their Section 8-AA match Thursday afternoon at Mon Valley Country Club tied at 222-all, but the Mikes won the 3-hole playoff, 17-21, to retain a share of first place.

Carmichaels improves to 8-1 in the section and 9-1 overall. California defeated Waynesburg Central, 229-249, to improve to 9-1 in the section.

Liam Shea was the low man for the Mikes with a 3-over 39. Jordan Bogucki finished with a 42 with Jacob Wamsley carding a 43. Chris McAfee shot a 44 and Josh Bogucki closed the scoring with a 54.

The Cougars’ Mike Kondratick was medalist with an even-par 36. Josiah Fisher shot 44, Nick Chapasko had 45, Josh Sidar finished with 47, and Dave Kunzel rounded out the scoring with a 50.

Tyler Kuntz was medalist on Thursday with a 5-over 42 for the Bulldogs in Beth-Center’s 241-244 Section 8-AA win over visiting Jefferson-Morgan at Carmichaels Golf Club.

Ryan Beyer carded a 46 in the Bulldogs’ victory. Teammate Justin Terhorst shot a 49, while Tyler Ross finished with a 50. Tim Terhorst (54) also counted in the final score.

Gavin Koratich was low man for the Rockets, finishing with an 8-over 45. Carmeron Kromar followed with a 46, and Gage Clark carded a 47. Christian Randolph (51) and Sausha Saunders (55) also counted in the Jefferson-Morgan (1-7, 1-10) final score.

The Leopards enjoyed playing their home course Thursday afternoon, as Belle Vernon defeated visiting Laurel Highlands, 207-222, at Willowbrook Golf Course.

Belle Vernon improves to 6-2 in the section and 7-3 overall. Laurel Highlands is now 4-4 in both the section as well as overall.

The Mustangs’ Harison Laskey was medalist with a 2-under 34. Cole Phillis (41), Jarrod Sutton (45), John Ek (50) and Ryan Gesso (52) also factored into the final score.

Michael Lubrani was the low man for the Leopards with a 36. Deven Judy (44), Zach Cicchini (40), Greg Fedor (42), and Eric Harkins (45) rounded out the scoring rounds for Belle Vernon.

Girls volleyball

Frazier girls volleyball won a Section 5-A game 3-0 at Mapletown on Wednesday, defeating the Lady Maples 25-15, 25-19, and 25-14.

Miranda Shepler and Jamie Muccioli each had 12 service points in the Lady Commodores’ road victory. Teammate Dyanna Shaporka added eight kills and two blocks.

Mapletown teammates Rachel Buchtan and Madison Bogden each had five blocks.

The Lady Falcons won a Section 5-AA volleyball match 3-0 at Belle Vernon on Wednesday. Brownsville won 25-9, 25-8, and 25-16.

Alie Seto had 11 service points, five aces, and seven kills in the Lady Falcons’ victory. Teammate Tori Dubos had six kills while Kyonte Martin had 18 assists.

Jill Sabatula had 13 service points, six aces, and five digs for Brownsville. Maris Seto added eight service points and five kills.

Albert Gallatin won the first set, but Ringgold powered back with three straight victories Thursday night for a 3-1 Section 2-AAA road win over the Lady Colonials.

After dropping the first set, 25-23, Ringgold won the next three, 25-20, 25-14, 25-13.

Machaela Hall had 12 digs and two aces for Albert Gallatin (0-3, 0-6). Tyler Peebles finished with 11 assists and nine digs. Liberty Embacher had a nice all-around performance with 14 digs, seven kills and four aces.

Peters Twp. started strong and finished stronger Thursday night for a 3-0 Section 2-AAA victory over visiting Laurel Highlands.

The Lady Indians won by the scores, 25-16, 25-15, 25-9.

Stats leaders for the Fillies were Hannah Basinger (3 kills), Mackenzie Wheeler (5 digs, 2 kills), Morgan Wensing (3 kills), Maddi Rice (8 digs), and Katelyn Kearns (5 assists, 2 digs).

Cross country

Frazier’s Nyoah Marteny won the boys non-section race at Sampey Park Thursday afternoon, but was the lone Commodore boy in the race as Albert Gallatin swept the triangular with Yough at Sampey Park.

Albert Gallatin defeated Yough in the boys race, 20-37, while the Lady Colonials won by a score of 20-35.

Marteny covered his home course in 19:06.

The Colonials had six runners in the top 10 with Brandon Bogus in second with a time of 19:50. Brian McKnight (3, 20:17), Kody Valentine (5, 21:20), Colton Barkefelt (7, 21:31), Ben Devries (8, 21:38), and D.J. Wallace (10, 22:01) also had top-10 finishes.

The Lady Colonials finished 1-2-3 with Skylar Bogus first in a time of 24:17, Elizabeth Trump second in 24:21, and Kaitlyn Smearcheck third with a time of 24:31.

Kaitlyn Podloger (5, 25:36) and Sylvia Morton (9, 27:24) also had top-10 finishes.

College volleyball

The Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus women’s volleyball team swept past visiting Penn State DuBois, 3-0, Thursday evening for a PSUAC victory.

The Lady Roaring Lions won in straight sets, 25-5, 25-11, 25-6.

Emily Konter, Victoria Helmantoler, Samantha Helmantoler and Kelsey Tyler shared the team lead with four kills apiece. Konter led with 17 assists.

The Lady Roaring Lions travel to Michigan today for the two-day Rochester College Invitational.
