Ice Miners wins shootout, 4-3
Brendan Jaquay scored the lone goal of the shootout Saturday as the Keystone Ice Miners closed the NAHL Showcase with a 4-3 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays.
Keystone’s Matt Jones scored the the lone goal of the first period, unassisted at 2:26.
The Ice Miners built a 2-0 advantage on Jon Hall’s short-handed goal assisted by Vito Aluia at 3:05, but Corpus Christi answered with Connor Bucsis’ power play goal and an unassisted goal by Tanner Lomsnes.
Jaquay regained the lead for the Ice Miners with a goal at 3:45 of the third period. Wes Michaud tied the game about seven minutes later.
The teams went through three scoreless rounds in the shootout. Corpus Christi failed to score on its fourth attempt before Jaquay came through on the Ice Miners’ fourth shot.
The IceRays’ fifth shot was stopped, securing the win for the Ice Miners.
Keystone goalie Alex Blackenburg stopped 21 shots. Corpus Christi’s Andrew Lindgren turned aside 23 shots.
Keystone improves to 2-2-1, while Corpus Christi goes to 2-2-2. The Ice Miners return home for a couple days before returning to Michigan for games against Soo (Friday, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 7 p.m.) and Michigan (Sunday, 4 p.m.)
