Big inning lifts Norwin to 8-4 win over Colonials

Albert Gallatin was ahead 3-0 through four innings, but Norwin exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday afternoon for an 8-4 Section 2-AAAA home victory.

The Colonials’ Nick Groover was grooving, tossing a no-hitter through 4 1/3 innings. Norwin then had seven of the next eight batters reach base to knock out Groover.

Danny Amendola had a two-run double and Bobby Svec belted a two-run single to make the score 8-3.

The Colonials’ Caleb Dempsey belted a two-run home run in the first inning and a solo shot in the third.

Norwin improves to 2-1 in the section and 4-2 overall, while the Colonials slip to 0-3 in the section and 3-4 overall.
