Cal girls cruise on the track past Frazier, J-M
COAL CENTER — The California girls controlled all aspects of Tuesday’s Section 6-AA home triangular track & field meet, cruising to a sweep with a 81-58 win against Frazier and a 100-39 victory against Jefferson-Morgan.
Frazier salvaged a sweep with a 75-55 win against the Lady Rockets.
As expected, the Lady Commodores’ Cassidy Guiser sped around the track to sweep the sprints. The senior won the 100 in 13.4 seconds, the 200 in 28.7 seconds and the 400 in 1:03.
Teammate Annya Kossol also had a productive day, finishing first overall in the triple jump (32-11, a personal best) and long jump (14-7½). She was second overall in the high jump (4-6) and third in the 100 high hurdles.
“It’s the PR (personal best), trying to do your best,” Kossol said of her approach. “I think before I run or I jump, I want to try my best.”
Of her goals, Kossol added, “I want to try to get 33 (feet) in the triple jump and get the school record.”
As for how her season is progressing, Kossol said, “Especially after today, I’m getting there. I just hope to get PRs.”
The Lady Commodores also had overall first-place performances from Alena Blaszczak (300 intermediate hurdles, 54.40) and Ashley Lutska (discus, 74-11).
The Lady Trojans had overall first-place finishes from the 3,200 relay (12:43), Megan Heverly (800, 2:50), 1,600 relay (5:06), Anna Gillispie (high jump, 4-10), and Lindsey Huhn (shot put, 25-8).
California coach Darrin Dillow has a younger squad due to a number of key performers lost to graduation, but is pleased with how his squad is progressing through the season.
“We are always stressing times and distances where they need to be,” explained Dillow. Anna (Gillispie) in the high jump did well and Megan Heverly was not too bad in the 400.”
“As long as they get better each meet,” continued Dillow. “We stress PRs. That goes with getting better.”
