Uniontown tops LH in softball
Uniontown shortstop Tia Forsythe hit a two-run homer in the third inning and the Lady Raiders continued to search for consistency in a 16-8 win over Laurel Highlands in Section 4-AAA softball Monday at LH.
“We played pretty well early, but we let LH back into the game,” Lady Raiders coach Steve Forsythe said. “It’s the same thing we’ve been doing all year. We hit very well in the cages, but once the game starts, we either hit it right at them or we strike out.”
The Lady Raiders improved to 2-3 in section games and overall, while LH fell to 0-6, 0-5.
The Lady Raiders plated seven runs in the second inning on three walks, a couple of LH errors and back-to-back two-RBI hits by Milissa Lucas (single) and Bailey Hoover (double). Forsythe’s homer in the third made it an 11-0 Lady Raider lead before LH responded with three runs in the fourth and fifth and two more in the sixth to keep the game going.
“It should have been a 10-run game, but we had to play all seven because of a couple of simple errors that we committed,” Forsythe added.
Uniontown travels to Southmoreland today before hosting Derry in a make-up game on Wednesday and hosting Yough Thursday. LH is home to Greensburg Salem today and travels to Mount Pleasant Thursday.
