Lady Pioneers defeat Mapletown, 8-2

The Lady Pioneers scored four runs in their first at-bat and winning pitcher Bailey Bennington made the advantage stand as West Greene defeated Mapletown, 8-2, on the road Thursday for a 8-2 Section 1-A victory.

West Greene (4-3, 8-4) led 7-0 after the second inning and 8-1 through three innings. The Lady Maples added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Bennington allowed five hits, walked four and struck out 11.

The Lady Pioneers’ Lexie Mooney was 2-for-5 with four RBI, including a two-run double in the second inning. Sage Vliet had a double and single, and drove home one run. Melissa Road also doubled.

Lauren Adams took the loss, striking out two and walking eight, seven of which were intentional. Abby Shipley had a pair doubles and drove in a run. Maddie Bogden drove in the other run with a single.

Mapletown goes to 4-5 in the section and 6-5 overall.
