Who’s next? Five more Steelers worthy of the Hall of Fame

Jerome Bettis is the 23rd Steeler to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But he surely won’t be the last.
Here’s Chris Bradford’s look at the five who should be next and why:
1. ALAN FANECA
Eligible: 2016.
Pro: When asked who was the best teammate with whom he had ever played, Bettis said Faneca. Hard to argue against nine Pro Bowl and six All-Pro selections. Faneca played in 187 out of a possible 188 career games and helped the Steelers to a Super Bowl win in 2005.
Con: Due to logjam, likely won’t go in first ballot.
2. BEN ROETHLISBERGER
Eligible: Still active.
Pro: With 39,057 passing yards to date, Roethlisberger should reach the top 10 within next two seasons. He’s the 2004 Rookie of the Year, three-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl champion. One of the great escape artists at QB position.
Con: Four-game suspension in 2010 for violation of personal conduct policy.
3. TROY POLAMALU
Eligible: 2019.
Pro: Polamalu revolutionized the safety position with his rare blend of speed and athleticism. A popular star who made plays that will be talked about for decades. Was a four-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowl selection.
Con: Played all 16 games just six times in 12 seasons.
4. HINES WARD
Eligible: 2017.
Pro: Not the tallest or the fastest receiver, Ward was arguably the toughest at his position. He excelled at blocking while amassing a very Hall-worthy 1,000 receptions for 12,083 yards and 85 TDs. Was a four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl MVP.
Con: His stats reflect a player who hung around too long.
5. CARNELL LAKE
Eligible: Since 2006.
Pro: Though he played in the sizable shadow of Rod Woodson, Lake was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and was named to the All-Decade team for the 1990s. Primarily a safety, he also played corner in his dozen years in the league.
Con: Hasn’t been finalist in nine years on ballot.
