Falcon golfers remain unbeaten with 225-255 win
The Connellsville boys golf team had a busy opening week with three straight matches and a highly successful first week with three victories.
The Falcons capped their productive opening week Thursday with a 225-255 victory in Section 2-AAA action against visiting Uniontown at Pleasant Valley County Club.
This is the first time the Falcons opened the season 3-0 under coach Brent Rockwell.
Uniontown’s Logan Levander and the Falcons’ Zach Beneke shared medalist honors with a 9-over 43.
Connellsville’s Gavin Swink and Jimmy Malone both shot 44, while Lydia Glotfelty finished with a 45. Jake Tzan rounded out the scoring with a 49.
Uniontown freshman Danae Rugola shot a 44. Riley Levander finished with a 47, and Alec Basile carded a 50. With only five golfers, Eric Silbaugh’s 71 counted in the final score.
Connellsville has a big stretch next week with a match on the road Wednesday at Butler’s Golf Course against Elizabeth-Forward and at home Thursday against Belle Vernon.
Uniontown is 0-1 in the section and 1-1 overall.

Belle Vernon 208, Laurel Highlands 232 – Michael Lubrani shot 3-over 39 Thursday afternoon as Belle Vernon remained undefeated with a 208-232 Section 2-AAA home victory against Laurel Highlands.
Eric Harkins and Zach Cicchini both shot 41 for the Leopards, who improve to 2-0 in the section and 3-0 overall.
Greg Fedor (43) and Frank Guarinoni (44) rounded out the scoring for Belle Vernon.
Jarrod Sutton was the low man for the Mustangs (0-3, 0-3) with an 8-over 44. Johnathan Ek shot a 45. Daniel Zuchelkowski finished with a 47, and Caleb Matthews and Olivia Soom both had 48.

Carmichaels 216, Charleroi 232 – Liam Shea shot a 1-under 36 at Carmichaels Golf Club Thursday afternoon to lead Carmichaels to a 216-232 Section 8-AA victory against visiting Charleroi.
The Mikes remain unbeaten, improving to 3-0 in the section. The Cougars slip to 2-1.
Jacob Wamsley shot a 42 for the Mikes. Chris McAfee (45), Matt Barrish (46), and Josh Bogucki (47) rounded out the scoring for Carmichaels.
The Cougars’ Mike Kondratik shot an even-par 37. Nick Chapasko finished with a 46, and Joe Fisher and Frank Gricar both had 47. Levi Virgili’s 55 closed out the scoring.
Girls Tennis
Brownsville 5, Jeannette 0 – The Brownsville girls tennis team dropped just one set Thursday afternoon as the Lady Falcons shut out Jeannette, 5-0, in Section 1-AA action.
The match was the opener for the Lady Falcons, while the Lady Jayhawks fall to 0-2.
Tiffany Markovitch won her first singles match against Jeannette’s Hannah Poth, 6-2, 6-2. Lauren Zelner dropped only three games in her straight-sets victory at No. 2 singles.
Alex Zosky won the first set at No. 3 singles, 6-2, but dropped the second to Abigail Stahl, 7-5. Zosky then won the tiebreaker, 7-6 (5).
Mary and Sarah Lemesh lost only one game in winning their No. 1 doubles match. Sydnee Yuhas and Ashley Zosky completed the sweep by winning No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-4.
