Thomas More downs Yellow Jackets in OT, 85-83

The game was tied at halftime as well as at the end of regulation Wednesday night, but Thomas More (Ky.) finally broke through in the overtime period for an 85-83 victory against visiting Waynesburg in a battle of winless teams.

The game was tied at halftime, 39-39, and at the end of regulation, 75-75.

The Yellow Jackets’ largest lead was 17 at 12:55 of the first half, while the Saints led by four with just over 16 minutes remaining in the game. The PAC contest had 11 ties and seven lead changes.

DJ Ritchie led Waynesburg (0-4) with 18 points. B.J. Durham finished with 17 and Nate Labishak added 15.

Simon Clifford led the Saints (1-3) with a game-high 24 points. Corey Howard came off the bench to score 16 points. Brandon Horne finished with 12.

Clarion 71, California (Pa.) 58 — The Vulcans trailed by 17 at halftime Tuesday night and weren’t able to make up ground in the second half for a PSAC loss to the visiting Golden Eagles.

Luka Andjusic and Nate Bellhy shared scoring honors for California (1-3, 2-5) with 11 points apiece. Tony Richardson added 10.

Rob Agurs and B.J. Andrews led Clarion (4-0, 6-2) with 14 points each. Andre Anthony finished with 13.

Women’s basketball

Thomas More (Ky.) 93, Waynesburg 68 — The opening PAC game was tied after the first quarter, but the Saints pulled away with a 30-13 advantage in the second quarter to defeat the visiting Yellow Jackets.

Thomas More (1-0, 4-0) carried the final two quarters, 46-38.

Heather Davis led Waynesburg (0-1, 1-5) with 15 points. Addy Knetzer finished with 13.

Nikki Kiernan scored a game-high 24 points for Thomas More. Alexa Santamaria had 12 points and Abby Owings added 11.

California (Pa.) 67, Clarion 48 — The Vulcans’ defense allowed just 14 points in the middle two quarters Tuesday night, matching the total visiting Clarion had in the first quarter as California remained undefeated in conference play.

California (4-0, 5-1) led 21-14 after the first quarter, but pulled away over the next two quarters with a 29-14 advantage.

Shatara Parsons led the way for the Vulcans with a double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Seairra Barrett also had a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Miki Glenn added 12 points and six assists.

Amesha Harden-Pulliam and Jen Straw shared scoring honors for the Golden Eagles with 10 points apiece.
