Colby Shipley was the man of the hour for Connellsville Friday night as the senior guard hit the go-ahead 3-pointer and two clinching free throws as the Falcons rallied for a 49-46 win against Laurel Highlands on the first night of the FCCA Tip-Off Tournament at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
Trailing 46-44 with less than 20 seconds remaining in the game, Shipley nailed a 3-pointer with 13.8 seconds left to give the Falcons a 47-46 lead.
Then, after a missed shot, Shipley was fouled with two seconds remaining and made both shots for insurance.
The game was tied at 12-12 after the first quarter and the Mustangs (0-1) led 24-23 at halftime. The Falcons came back in the third quarter for a 40-38 lead.
The Mustangs responded in the fourth quarter one more time for a 46-44 advantage late in the game to set up Shipley’s late heroics.
Shipley led the Falcons with 18 points. Ty Evans added 11.
Jake Swartz scored a game-high 20 points for the Mustangs.
