By The 1 min read

This is the next installment in a continuing series of articles over the next year where we follow the progress of our local Olympic hopefuls.

Westminster’s Marissa Kalsey opened the winter indoor season Friday night with a first-place finish at the YSU Icebreaker hosted by Youngstown State University.

The Waynesburg Central graduate cleared 12-2¾ on her first attempt for first place, over a foot higher than teammate Cassidy Shepherd.

Kalsey entered at 3.42 meters (11-4) and cleared the bar on her second attempt. She needed only one attempt to clear 3.73 meters (11-9).

Kalsey missed all three attempts at 3.81 meters (12-6).
