Southmoreland stormed out to a 22-7 advantage in the first period and went on to defeat host Belle Vernon, 66-56, in a non-section boys basketball game on Tuesday night.

Brandon Stone led the Scotties (2-1) with 19 points. Doug Leighty and Tanner Schwartz added 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Noah Bukowski topped the Leopards (0-1), who were playing their first game of the season, in scoring with 16 points and Griffin LaCarte followed with 13.
