Waynesburg men rally past Westminster, 73-65

Westminster led 33-27 at halftime Saturday afternoon, but Waynesburg rallied in the second half for a 73-65 victory in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action.

The visiting Titans (2-1, 2-6) led by 11 points in the first half at 18-7.

The Yellow Jackets (1-2, 1-6) opened the second half with an 8-2 run to tie the game at 35-all with 18:38 remaining and took the lead at 43-41 on DJ Ritchie’s 3-pointer at 15:24.

Trailing 61-57 with 4:32 left in the game, Waynesburg closed with a 16-4 run to secure the victory.

Ritchie led all scorers with 22 points. Jon Knab scored 16 and Nate Labishak finished with 13.

Austin Armwood led the Titans with 12 points. Deontay Scott scored 11 and Paul Carswell added 10.

Davis & Elkins (W.Va.) 83, California (Pa.) 72 — The Vulcans fell behind by 23 points in the second half and couldn’t recover in a non-conference home loss.

Davis & Elkins (4-4) led 41-36 at halftime and extended its advantage to 23 points with a 23-5 run in the second half.

Wesley Sprinkle led the Vulcans (4-6) with 20 points. Kevin Simpson had 19 and Kevin Bracy-Davis added 17. Khalil Jabbie finished with 11 points.

Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 94, Penn State DuBois 86 — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus outscored host Penn State DuBois 24-14 down the stretch to earn a PSUAC victory on Friday.

Brandon Cunningham scored a game-high 28 points to lead coach Mark John’s Roaring Lions (4-7, 3-2). Brownsville graduate C.J. Gaddis and Luke Williams added 22 and 20 points, respectively.

Williams scored 14 of his points in the first half to help Fayette take a 48-39 lead.

DuBois (6-3, 1-2) battled back and eventually took a 72-70 lead on Tristan Pierce’s 3-pointer with 7:59 left.

Gaddis answered with a trey of his own to put Fayette up 73-72 and they would never trail again.

Cunningham had nine points and Gaddis eight in the final eight minutes.

Gustin Conde led DuBois with 27 points. Pierce added with 21 and was followed by Sam Roselli (19) and Kyle Mills (16).

Dominick Jackson and Spencer Perieff tallied 10 points apiece for Fayette.

Cunningham also led the Roaring Lions in rebounds with eight and assists with three. Perieff contributed seven rebounds and three steals, and Gaddis added six boards and two steals.

Women’s basketball

Waynesburg 75, Westminster 51 — The Yellow Jackets led 19-9 after the first quarter and 38-19 at halftime on their way to a PAC home victory Saturday against the Titans.

Waynesburg (2-1, 3-5) extended its lead to 59-28 after three quarters.

Haley Delaney led the Yellow Jackets with 12 points. Addy Knetzer and Mackenna Drazich both scored 11, while Kassidy O’Keefe added 10.

Kristine Fromknecht led the Titans (0-3, 0-7) with 11 points. Annie Popoff and Paige Quinn had 10 points apiece.

Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 76, Penn State DuBois 58 — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus soared to a 24-11 lead in the first period and never looked back in cruising to a PSUAC win at Penn State DuBois on Friday.

The Lady Roaring Lions (4-5, 3-1) led 40-21 at halftime and 61-37 after three.

Albert Gallatin graduate Courtney Haines led Fayette with a game-high 29 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals. Haines hit nine of 13 shots from the field and 10 of 12 free throws.

Taylor Smith added 15 points and 10 boards, and Laurel Highlands graduate Hayley Moreland chipped in with 10 points and three assists.

AG grad Ally Rudolph had six points on a pair of 3-pointers, a game-high five assists and the game’s only blocked shot.

Ashley Brown led DuBois (2-7, 0-3) with 20 points. Latascia Shadle and Melody Young followed with 11 and 10, respectively.

Wrestling

Waynesburg 43, West Virginia Tech 9; Stevens Institute of Technology 26, Waynesburg 19; Baldwin Wallace 30, Waynesburg 12 — The Yellow Jackets posted a 1-2 record Saturday on their home mats.

Gordan Bieber (125), Zach Swarrow (133), Filippo Crivelli (141), D.J. Grindle (149), Landon Lohr (165), Mike Millero (174), Ryan Shank (184), and Greg Kumer (285) were victorious against West Virginia Tech.

Swarrow (125), Crivelli (141), Shank (184) and Jake Evans (285) won against Stevens Institute of Technology.

Tristan Buxton (125), Crivelli (141), Shank (184) and Evans (285) secured victories against Baldwin Wallace.
