Uniontown swimmers split with Golden Lions
The Red Raiders pulled out a win Thursday, while the Uniontown girls had a tough time in a loss to visiting Greensburg Salem in non-section action.
The Uniontown boys defeated the Golden Lions, 100-47, while the Greensburg Salem girls returned home with a 102-71 victory against the Lady Raiders.
The 200 medley relay of Jonathan Sharp, Chase Bowen, Riley Gilleland and Evan Klatt win in 1:57.56. The same foursome finished first in the 400 freestyle relay with a winning time of 3:56.43.
Klatt (200 freestyle, 2:29.71), Sharp (200 IM, 2:19.29; 100 freestyle, 51.01), Gilleland (50 freestyle, 25.58), Jonathan DesVarro (diving, 102.15), and Bowen (100 butterfly, 1:12.40) all had individual first-place finishes.
Sharp had a WPIAL qualifying time in both the 200 IM and 100 freestyle.
The Lady Raiders’ Elizabeth Klingensmith had two first-place finishes, winning the 50 freestyle (26.59) and 100 butterfly (1:00.76) in WPIAL qualifying times. Valerie Grimes won the 200 freestyle in 2:21.88. Maeve Carei won the diving with 161.80 points. Rylee Levander took first in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:11.56.
Levander, Alexandra Meadows, Klingensmith and Grimes finished second in the 200 medley relay, but did so with a WPIAL qualifying time of 2:06.77. The same quartet also finished second in the 400 freestyle relay in a qualifying time of 4:14.44.
