Carlynton nips Lady Trojans in final, 48-42
Carlynton 48, California 42 – California led at halftime, but Carlynton rallied in the third quarter Wednesday night for a 48-42 victory in the title game of the Lady Trojan Holiday Tournament.
The host Lady Trojans (6-4) led 9-4 after the first quarter and 20-15 at halftime.
The Lady Cougars (8-2) pushed into the lead on the strength of an 18-9 advantage in the third quarter and then held on in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind victory.
Carlynton’s Ashleigh Wilson earned a spot on the all-tournament team after scoring 15 points. Teammate Diamond Thomas was named the tournament MVP.
The Lady Trojan’s Bailey Vig, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored a game-high 16 points.
In earlier games, Charleroi built a big lead early on its way to a 66-24 victory over rival Monessen.
Kaitlyn Riley, who was named to the all-tournament team, poured in a game-high 25 points. Maria Claybaugh added 21.
Natalia Holmes led the Lady Greyhounds with 11.
Sewickley Academy led 20-8 after the first quarter and never looked back for a 52-30 win over South Allegheny.
All-tournament selection Maddy Casale scored 23 for the Lady Panthers. Olivia Ryder added 13 points to the winning effort.
Hanna Elder led the Lady Gladiators with 13 points.
