Kalsey wins pole vault
Westminster College junior Marissa Kalsey cleared 12-6 (3.81 meters) to finish first in the women’s pole vault Saturday at the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by Mount Union.
The Waynesburg Central graduate vaulted the same height teammate Cassidy Shepherd, a Greensburg Salem alum, but took the top spot with fewer misses.
The Titans’ Haley Hall finished fifth after clearing 3.21 meters.
The Westminster vaulters are coached by Waynesburg Central grad Bradi Rhoades.
Zanella qualifies in 800
California (Pa.) junior Alex Zanella won the 800 by nearly two seconds Saturday at the Youngstown State National Invitational in a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:15.7.
Uniontown’s Julie Friend finished fifth in the mile and qualified for the conference championships with her time of 5:12.07.
Sophomore Caroline Opferman broke the school record in the long jump when she finished fourth with a jump of 5.54 meters (18-2¼). She also improved her qualifying mark in the triple jump with her ninth-place effort of 34-10¼.
Danae Burgwin set a PR and qualified for the PSAC Championships with her fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.85 seconds.
