Tappe scores 34 as Aquinas beats Gators, 66-63
Aquinas Academy rallied in the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon for a 66-63 non-section victory at Geibel Catholic.
Aquinas Academy (3-18) led 14-12 after the first quarter and 34-32 at halftime.
The Gators (9-11) rallied into the lead with a 15-11 third quarter, but the visitors finished strong in the fourth quarter, 21-16.
Mike Tappe scored a game-high 34 points for Aquinas Academy, including 9-for-9 from the foul line.
James Ewing scored 24 points for the Gators. Bailey Miller added 22.
Girls basketball
Geibel Catholic 40, Aquinas Academy 10 — The Geibel Catholic girls led 12-0 after the first quarter and then cruised to a 40-10 non-section victory Saturday afternoon against visiting Aquinas Academy.
The Lady Gators (13-7) led 23-1 at halftime and 30-8 after three quarters.
Karly Judy scored a game-high 15 points for Geibel. Grace Nowicki added 14.
Hannah Canil scored six points for Aquinas Academy (8-7).
