Class AAA section tournaments set
Belle Vernon has six No. 1 seeds, while Waynesburg Central has three wrestlers in the top seed when Class AAA sectional tournaments get underway Saturday.
Ringgold will serve as the host for Section 2-AAA, including the Leopards, Connellsville, Albert Gallatin and Laurel Highlands, and Trinity will hold the Section 4-AAA tournament, where the Raiders will seek one of the five places per weight class into the WPIAL/Southwest Regional Class AAA Championships the following week.
Belle Vernon’s Jacob Dunlop (106, 31-7), Zachary Hartman (120, 36-4), Neiko Kuntz (132, 17-12), Jarod Verkleeren (145, 36-4), Austin Bell (170, 34-3), and Michael Fine (220, 27-13) are all No. 1 seeds in the Section 2-AAA tourney. Mitchell Hartman (138, 28-13), Derek Verkleeren (152, 33-6), and Billy Korber (285, 9-7) received No. 2 seeds.
Connellsville’s Tyler Kenney (126, 33-4) and Louis Mauro (285, 27-7) are top-seeded for Connellsville, while Tommy Provance (160, 20-6) and Matt Butler (220, 24-9) are No. 2 seeds.
The Mustangs’ have a pair of No. 2 seeds in Justin Mansberry (113, 18-8) and Jimmy Pierce (160, 20-6).
Waynesburg Central has eight wrestlers in the top two seeds, headlined by No. 1 seeds A.C. Headlee (132, 35-1), Shaun Wilson (138, 31-3), and Shane Piper (152, 26-6). Caleb Morris (106, 28-8), Logan Henderson (126, 17-12), Kyle Homet (145, 24-11), Terry Victor (160, 29-6), and Colin McCracken (182, 31-5).
