Raiders win five Section 4-AAA wrestling titles
Waynesburg Central won five titles and advanced 12 wrestlers Saturday at the Section 4-AAA tournament hosted by Trinity High School.
Caleb Morris started the march to the WPIAL championships this week with a 4-2 decision against Canon-McMillan’s Logan Macri in the 106-pound title bout.
Cole Rush gave the Raiders their second section crown when he defeated West Allegheny’s Ryan Cunningham, 5-1, at 120 pounds. A.C. Headlee routed Trinity’s Cam Reynolds in the 132-pound final with a 19-3 technical fall at 4:13.
Shaun Wilson followed with another technical fall, defeating West Allegheny’s Alex Pichi, 22-7. Shane Piper advanced to the district finals with a forfeit win at 152 pounds.
The Raiders’ Logan Henderson advanced to the 126-pound title bout, but dropped a 3-1 decision to Canon-McMillan’s Camden Fontenot. Kyle Homet also made the finals, losing a 1-0 decision to Canon-McMillan’s Micah Kusturiss at 145 pounds. Terry Victor was pinned by West Allegheny’s Nate Hall in 1:47 in the 160-pound final.
Ryan Braun (4, 113), Frank Crawford (5, 170), Colin McCracken (3, 182), and Ryan Keys (4, 195) also earned a spot in the WPIAL Championships, which begin on Thursday at Norwin High School.
