Trojans inch closer to playoff berth

The California boys scored enough points in the first 16 minutes Friday night as the Trojans handed visiting Geibel Catholic a 79-42 loss in Section 3-A action.

The Trojans moved one win closer to clinching a section playoff berth, improving to 7-1 in the section and 11-4 overall. The Gators (8-8) remain alone in third place with a 5-4 section record, one game ahead of West Greene.

California led 25-10 after the first quarter and 48-21 at halftime. The home team extended its lead with a 31-21 advantage in the second half.

K.C. Zajicek scored a game-high 22 points for the Trojans. Tray Matthews finished with 20 and Kass Taylor added 17.

Bailey Miller scored 12 for the Gators.
