Mustangs win in the pool against Greensburg Salem
The Laurel Highlands swimming teams didn’t let a little winter weather slow them down Monday night as the Mustangs came away with a 101-38 non-section victory against visiting Greensburg Salem and the Fillies finished in an 88-88 tie.
The LH boys improve to 6-4 overall, while the girls are now 4-5-1.
Ceremonies were held to rededicate the Roland R. Cully Natatorium before the meet.
The Mustangs dominated in the pool by sweeping the two relays competed (the third was exhibition) and most of the individual events.
Brandon Thomas (200 IM, 2:12.81), Theo Skoric (50 freestyle, 24.36; diving, 215.35), Logan Knoyer (100 butterfly, 56.39; 100 backstroke, 58.43), Daniel Keith (100 freestyle, 55.07), and Jamey Siebart (500 freestyle, 6:10.20) all had individual first-place finishes for the Mustangs. Thomas’ and Knoyers’ finishes were WPIAL qualifying times.
Keith, Thomas, Knoyer and Skoric won the 200 medley relay in a WPIAL qualifying time of 1:50.39. Skoric, Keith, Dylan Rice and Daniel Schiffbauer finished first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.61.
The Fillies won two of the three relays with Emily Yarish Kristen Bane, Claire Prigg and Rachel Roscoe finishing first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.00) and Yarish, Annette Yauger, Roscoe and Lexi Kostelnik took first in the 400 freestyle relay (4:04.24).
Yarish (200 freestyle, 2:04.47; 100 butterfly, 1:03.98), Bane (200 IM, 2:23.73), Roscoe (50 freestyle, 26.46; 100 freestyle, 57.99), Madison Thomas (diving, 92.95), and Kostelnik (500 freestyle, 5:18.98; 100 backstroke, 1:06.11) all had first-place finishes. Yarish’s first-place finishes were in WPIAL qualifying times, as was Kostelnik’s in the 500 freestyle.
